Accessibility statement
This Statement relates to the website created for the Interim Environmental Governance Secretariat (“IEGS”) a secretariat within Defra including the online complaint portal providing access to the electronic complaint form (“the website”).
The IEGS website is managed by IEGS. It is designed to be used by as many people as possible. The text should be clear and simple to understand. You should be able to:
- zoom in up to 300% without problems
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- use most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
We’ve also made the text in the website as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
- the text will not reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window
- you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
The IEGS is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Images on some pages do not always have suitable image descriptions (this relates solely to the IEGS logo). Users of assistive technologies may not have access to information conveyed in images. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
Disproportionate burden
We believe that fixing the accessibility problems with some content would be disproportionate because this is a temporary website and we anticipate that it will be closed in late summer 2021 once the website for the Office for Environmental Protection is launched.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
All the content of the website is within the scope of the accessibility regulations.
PDFs and other documents
Any PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
IEGS is:
- Ensuring Word and PDF documents are in an accessible format
- raising awareness across the IEGS team of accessibility requirements
- training staff on meeting accessibility standards
We will continue to review the website take into account any problems reported and user feedback.
